My uncle Alg Purchase followed my parents to Canada at age 15, getting some experience at my dad's Pilot Mound, Manitoba farm,
and working around on other farms for "ten dollars a month and all found." He saved his money to put himself through
Manitoba Agriculture College, getting a degree in animal husbandry. He inlisted in the University Battalion in World War One,
served in France and then transferred into the new Royal Naval Air Service, flying airships on coastal patrol. He returned
to Manitoba, settling in Winnipeg. Recently he visited his sisters and brothers in England at Wimbourne, posing for this photo:
Purchases gathered at Wimborne in June 1962 are (LtoR)-
Mabel's sister, Jesse, Dennis Slocock, Mabel and Alg Purchase, Annie, Henry, Ethel, Angus, George and Florence Wheelton.
